Zen Master Bon Soeng is also known as Jeff Kitzes, and is an old friend and currently the Guiding Teacher of the Empty Gate Zen
Center in Berkeley. Jeff met Zen Master Seung Sahn in 1977 and received transmission from him in 2001. He has worked as a therapist for many years, focusing on the

blog. We hope to have him back soon!.

Our 2008 retreat was led by Judy Roitman, JDPSN. Judy began practicing Zen with Zen Master Seung Sahn in 1976, and was one of the founders of the Kansas Zen
Center in 1978 where she is currently the guiding teacher. She received inka (full authorization to teach) in 1998. The retreat began with an informal dinner on Friday
evening and ended at noon with another informal meal. [More Details]

Kyol Che, Jan 5 - Apr 5
(translated as 'tight Dharma' or 'coming
together') is traditionally a time when monks and nuns
do intensive practice in the mountain temples of
Korea. For us it can be a time to refocus and energize
our practice. In addition to Wednesday nights and the first Saturday
of the month we'll have practice on Tuesday & Thursday
mornings from 6:00AM to 7:30AM.
here
is a good Kyol Che speech by Zen Master Seung Sahn.

Kido Chanting
On Saturday, November 3rd, instead of our normal sitting we will
be doing kido chanting. Kido means "Energy Path". Our intention while chanting
is to send our compassionate energy to where it's needed in the universe. If you can, please bring
percussion instruments such as a Moktak, wooden blocks, rattles,
drums, spoons, tambourines, etc. We will begin at 9AM and go
until Noon. And bring a bottle of water!
